Where Brown Travertine Works Well
Brown travertine slabs are used across a range of residential and commercial applications. As a countertop material, the stone brings natural movement and warmth to kitchens and bathrooms. As a wall cladding material, large-format brown travertine slabs create visual depth on feature walls, fireplace surrounds, and accent panels. The stone also performs well in outdoor settings where conditions allow, including covered patios and exterior wall applications, though any outdoor use should factor in the stone's porosity and the local climate.
Sealing and Maintenance
Because travertine is a porous, calcium carbonate stone, proper sealing is the most important maintenance step. A penetrating sealer applied at installation, and reapplied every 6 to 12 months depending on use, protects the stone from moisture absorption and staining. A simple water test is a reliable way to gauge when resealing is due: if water absorbs into the surface rather than beading, it is time to reseal.
For daily cleaning, a pH-neutral stone cleaner or mild dish soap diluted in warm water is appropriate. Avoid acidic cleaners, bleach-based products, ammonia, and citrus-based sprays, as all of these can etch or discolor the surface over time. Spills should be blotted rather than wiped to avoid spreading, and addressed promptly given the stone's natural porosity.
