Taj Mahal Stone Slab

Taj Mahal stone slabs are a natural metamorphic quartzite quarried in Brazil, recognized for their creamy white and warm golden tones. The stone ranks approximately 6 to 7 on the Mohs hardness scale, making it one of the more durable options used in countertops, flooring, and wall cladding.

Nova Tile and Stone carries these slabs across multiple showroom locations in Nevada and Northern California, serving homeowners, designers, and contractors. The company offers free design consultations, a sample program, a trade program for professionals, and ships to all 48 contiguous U.S. states.

Finish guide

Honed (matte): Soft, low glare look. Hides fingerprints better than polished and feels more understated.

Polished: Reflective finish that makes veining and color read a bit sharper under light.

Leathered or brushed: Light texture that adds grip and depth, especially in large islands and accent walls.

The Stone That Commands Attention

Originating in Brazil, this quartzite begins as sandstone and transforms under intense heat and pressure into one of nature's hardest and most resilient stones. Its signature palette centers on soft whites and warm creams with golden undertones, giving it a luminous quality that feels simultaneously grand and inviting.

The surface carries a natural depth that shifts beautifully under different lighting conditions, whether bathed in morning sun or illuminated by evening fixtures. Its density gives it strong resistance to both scratching and etching, which means its beauty holds up in the spaces where life actually happens.

Why This Quartzite Belongs in Your Home

Few natural stones look equally stunning in a modern minimalist kitchen and a warmly layered traditional bath, but Taj Mahal is one of them. Its neutral warmth pairs effortlessly with a wide range of cabinetry finishes, metal tones, and flooring materials, making it one of the most versatile selections we carry. Beyond its visual appeal, this stone is genuinely built to last. Its hardness resists daily surface wear far better than many alternatives, and when properly sealed, it stands up well to moisture and staining.

Homeowners and designers consistently return to this material because it delivers the luxurious look of a high-end natural stone without requiring the constant vigilance that more delicate surfaces demand. Choosing it is an investment in a surface that will remain as beautiful decades from now as the day it was first unveiled. If you are looking for a lighter variation, our White Taj Mahal quartzite is equally breathtaking and worth exploring.

Frequently Asked Questions

This quartzite is naturally heat-resistant due to its dense, metamorphic composition. That said, we always recommend using trivets or heat pads as a standard care practice to protect the slab's finish and sealer over the long term, helping your countertops look their best for years to come.

Yes, like most natural stones, it benefits from sealing to guard against moisture and staining. Because its density is higher than many softer stones, it tends to be less porous, which means sealing intervals can often be longer. A simple water bead test on the surface will let you know when it is time to reseal.

Absolutely. Its combination of durability and warm, luminous tones makes it a standout choice for bathroom vanities, shower surrounds, and accent walls. The natural hardness and low porosity when sealed make it well suited for environments with regular moisture exposure.
