Polished Quartzite Countertops

Polished quartzite is a natural stone surface produced when quartzite, formed through the metamorphic transformation of sandstone under intense heat and pressure, is ground and buffed to a smooth, high-gloss finish. The result is a hard, dense material with rich natural veining, where the polished surface draws out the full depth of color and movement in the stone, creating a light-reflective appearance. Polished quartzite is used for custom countertop projects, and our team carries a curated selection of slabs to suit a range of styles. You can browse our available inventory to find the right slab for your space. While the surface is built for lasting use, it still benefits from thoughtful care and correct installation to maintain its appearance over time.

Our team has been helping homeowners, interior designers, and contractors find premium natural stone since 2005. Visit our homepage to explore everything we offer.

Our team curates a rotating selection of polished quartzite slabs spanning soft whites, warm creams, and dramatic grays. Each slab is available for in-store viewing at all four showroom locations.

Polished Quartzite Slabs for Custom Countertop Projects

Quartzite ranks among the harder natural stones available for custom countertop projects, and this finish can bring out a strong range of visual character in the stone. The high-gloss surface is achieved through a progressive grinding and buffing process that reveals the natural color range of the material. Our team sources slabs across a range of tones, from soft whites and warm creams to deeper grays and richly veined varieties. One example is the Allure Quartzite, a slab that demonstrates the kind of movement and depth a polished finish can reveal.

Whether the slab is being selected for a custom kitchen island or a statement surface in another part of the home, quartzite can serve as a compelling focal point. For a closer look at how this material reads in a real application, the Allure Quartzite kitchen island is a useful reference for custom island slab selection. Each slab carries its own natural variation in veining and tone, so viewing the actual stone in person or requesting samples is always encouraged before committing to a slab for your custom project.

Performance Characteristics

Polished quartzite countertops are well suited for daily use, but correct installation and ongoing maintenance are essential to long-term performance. Quartzite is generally known for good scratch resistance, but cutting directly on the surface is not recommended, and a cutting board should always be used to protect the finish. The material can handle normal surface heat reasonably well, but direct contact with very hot items should be avoided. Trivets and heat pads are recommended whenever placing hot cookware or pans on the surface, as thermal shock can still be a concern even with harder stones.

Quartzite also tends to hold up well in spaces with significant natural light, though UV performance may vary by color and finish. The stone offers good moisture resistance, but standing water should not be left for long periods, particularly around seams and edges. Care and Maintenance

Keeping polished quartzite countertops in good condition over time comes down to consistent, appropriate care. Our team recommends the following:

Wipe up spills promptly, particularly acidic liquids, to prevent potential surface damage.

Use a soft cloth or non-abrasive sponge for daily cleaning.

Avoid abrasive cleaners and harsh chemicals, as these can dull the polished surface over time.

Use a cutting board at all times. The surface offers good scratch resistance, but direct cutting is not recommended.

Place trivets or heat pads under hot pans and cookware to reduce the risk of thermal shock.

Seal the surface as directed by your fabricator or installer, particularly in high-use areas or around sinks.

Standing water should not be left on the surface for extended periods, especially near edges and seams.

Frequently Asked Questions

Polished quartzite slabs are often selected for custom countertop projects because of the material's natural hardness and the visual quality the finish can deliver. The surface is well suited for high-use areas, but proper care will help preserve its appearance over time. Spills should be cleaned promptly, hot items should be placed on trivets rather than directly on the stone, and a cutting board should always be used. Sealing the surface as recommended by your fabricator can also help maintain performance over time.

For day-to-day cleaning, a soft cloth or non-abrasive sponge with mild soap and warm water is generally sufficient. Abrasive cleaners and harsh chemicals should be avoided, as they can affect the finish of quartzite countertops over time. Spills should be wiped up promptly rather than left to sit, and the surface should be resealed periodically based on the fabricator's recommendations.

Quartzite tends to perform well in spaces that receive significant natural light. UV performance can vary depending on the specific color and finish of the slab, so individual results should still be considered on a case-by-case basis. Our team can help identify which slabs in our current inventory may be best suited for light-intensive environments.

Yes, store pickup is available at all four showroom locations. A properly rated truck and A-frame are required to safely transport natural stone slabs. Our team will assist with loading at the time of pickup. Scheduling an appointment in advance is recommended to ensure the slabs are ready upon arrival.

Yes, slab delivery is available, primarily serving Northern Nevada and Northern California. Natural stone slabs require special handling and are securely strapped to an A-frame and loaded onto a dedicated truck for transport. Delivery is made directly to a fabricator's address, and the receiving facility must have a forklift and slab boom or clamp available for unloading. Contact the team directly for a custom freight quote based on delivery location.
