Polished Quartz Countertops

Quartz has become one of the most widely used countertop materials in residential and commercial design, and the polished finish remains the most popular choice among homeowners. Polished quartz countertops feature a smooth, reflective surface created during the manufacturing process, giving kitchens, bathrooms, and other spaces a clean, finished appearance that works across a wide range of design styles.

We carry natural stone and quartz slabs across our tile and stone showrooms in Reno, Sacramento, Minden, and Fernley, where you can view slab options in person and work directly with our team to find the right fit for your project.

What Polished Quartz Countertops Are Made Of

Engineered Stone Composition

Composed of roughly 90–95% ground quartz bound together with polymer resins and pigments. Unlike natural stone slabs, which are cut directly from quarried material, quartz used for countertops are manufactured to precise specifications. The polished finish is applied during production, creating a surface that reflects light consistently across the slab.

Because the surface is non-porous, polished quartz do not require sealing and resist staining from common household liquids. This makes them a practical option for custom kitchen countertops, custom kitchen islands, and high-use surfaces where maintenance is a consideration. Contractors and builders working on larger projects can also apply for a trade account to access volume pricing and project support.

How Polished Quartz Compares to Other Finishes

Quartz slabs are also available in honed and leathered finishes, each with a distinct look and feel. A honed finish is matte and low-sheen, while a leathered finish has a slightly textured surface. The polished finish is the most reflective of the three and tends to show fingerprints and water spots more readily than the alternatives.

For spaces where visual brightness and a smooth surface are priorities, polished quartz is a straightforward choice. For areas where a softer or more understated look is preferred, a honed or leathered finish may be worth considering. Caring for Polished Quartz Countertops

Polished quartz is relatively low-maintenance compared to natural stone. Because the surface is non-porous, it does not require periodic sealing. Routine cleaning with mild soap and water is sufficient for most situations. Avoid abrasive cleaners and prolonged exposure to direct heat, as extreme temperatures can affect the resin binders in engineered quartz.

Despite being harder than many natural stones, quartz can chip at edges if subjected to sharp impacts, so standard precautions apply for any stone countertop surface. Applications for Polished Quartz Countertop Slabs

Polished quartz works well in a variety of applications beyond standard kitchen countertops. Common uses include:

Custom kitchen countertops

Are one of the most frequent applications, where the non-porous surface holds up well against food prep, moisture, and regular cleaning.

Custom kitchen islands

Benefit from polished quartz because the reflective surface adds visual interest as a focal point in open-plan spaces.

Custom vanity tops in bathrooms

Are another strong use case. The polished surface complements both modern and traditional bathroom designs and pairs well with a range of tile selections at our Sacramento countertop store and other locations.

Backsplashes

Can also be fabricated from quartz slab material for a seamless look that ties the countertop and wall surface together.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. Polished quartz countertops are an engineered stone product made from ground quartz combined with resin binders and pigments. Natural quartz stone refers to the raw mineral. Engineered quartz countertops are manufactured to consistent dimensions and do not require sealing, which distinguishes them from most natural stone slabs.

No. Because polished quartz countertops are non-porous by nature of the manufacturing process, sealing is not required. This is one of the primary differences between engineered quartz and natural stone options like marble or granite, which do require periodic sealing to prevent staining.

Yes. Polished quartz is a common choice for custom kitchen islands because the surface holds up well under regular use and the reflective finish adds visual presence to the space. Slab dimensions and edge profiles can be specified during fabrication to fit the dimensions of your island.

The polished finish on quartz is smooth and non-porous, which makes it easy to wipe down. However, the high-gloss surface does show fingerprints and water spots more readily than a honed or leathered finish. Routine wiping with a soft cloth keeps the surface looking clean without any special products.

We carry quartz and natural stone slabs at our four showroom locations in Reno, Sacramento, Minden, and Fernley. Visiting a showroom allows you to view slab colors and patterns under real lighting conditions before making a selection. You can also schedule a free design consultation with our team to get guidance specific to your project.

Selecting the Right Slab for Your Project

Quartz slabs vary by color, pattern, and veining. Some are designed to replicate the look of marble or granite, while others have a more uniform, solid appearance. The right choice depends on the overall color palette of the space, the cabinet finish, and the flooring.

Viewing slabs in person makes a significant difference in the selection process. Colors and patterns that appear one way on a screen can read differently under showroom or natural light. We encourage customers to schedule a free design consultation at any of our four showroom locations, where our commission-free design consultants can help narrow down options based on your project specifics.

For those who want to plan ahead, we also offer a wishlist feature on our website so you can save slab options before visiting a showroom.
