Leathered Bianco Superiore Quartzite

Bianco Superiore is a natural quartzite quarried in Brazil, formed when quartz-rich sandstone is transformed under intense heat and pressure deep within the earth. The result is one of the harder natural stones available, with a white to light grey base and veining that ranges from soft grey to subtle hints of gold and brown. No two slabs are identical, which makes each installation genuinely one of a kind. You can browse what we currently have in stock on our live slab inventory page.

The leathered finish is what sets this particular version of Bianco Superiore apart. Applied by running diamond-tipped brushes across the surface, the leathering process creates a low-sheen, matte texture with a subtle tactile quality. Unlike a polished finish that reflects light off a smooth face, leathered stone has a slightly uneven surface that brings out the depth of the stone's natural character. It also tends to show fewer fingerprints and water spots than polished slabs, which many homeowners find preferable in high-use areas. For designers working with warm-toned cabinetry or matte hardware finishes, the leathered surface often integrates more naturally than the sharp reflectivity of polished stone.

Where Leathered Bianco Superiore Quartzite Works Well

Kitchen Countertops

Kitchen countertops are the most common application, and leathered Bianco Superiore handles that environment well. Quartzite is resistant to heat and scratching, which puts it ahead of marble in practical terms for active kitchens. The matte finish also softens the contrast between stone and cabinetry, making it a good fit for both modern and transitional design schemes. On a kitchen island in particular, the leathered surface adds visual weight and texture without demanding attention the way a high-gloss finish can.

Bathroom Vanities

Bathroom vanities are another strong application. The white and grey palette works in both smaller bathrooms where lighter stone keeps the space feeling open, and in larger primary baths where a full slab backsplash makes a stronger statement

The leathered texture adds tactile interest without requiring a dramatically patterned stone. Paired with matte fixtures or natural wood vanity elements, it reads as deliberate and considered rather than decorative.

Other applications include kitchen islands, fireplace surrounds, and bar tops. Because quartzite handles heat and holds up to daily wear, it works in contexts where marble might require more caution. Wall cladding and feature walls are also worth considering, particularly in entryways or living spaces where the texture of the leathered finish can be appreciated up close. What to Know Before Selecting a Slab

Because Bianco Superiore is a natural stone, variation between slabs is normal and expected. The veining pattern, intensity, and color tone can shift considerably from one slab to the next. Some slabs run closer to pure white with fine grey veining; others have more movement with broader streaks or hints of warm tone. Seeing the actual slab in person is the most reliable way to select stone for your project.

The leathered finish also interacts differently with light depending on the time of day and the direction of natural light in a space. Viewing slabs at our Reno, Sacramento, Minden, or Fernley showroom, where you can hold samples against paint swatches or cabinet door samples, gives you a much clearer picture than photos alone. What reads as cool and bright in a warehouse under fluorescent lighting may shift noticeably in a kitchen with south-facing windows or warm ambient light.

Slab thickness is another practical consideration. Bianco Superiore quartzite is commonly available in 2 cm and 3 cm thicknesses. For countertops, 3 cm is the more widely used option because it provides additional structural strength and a more substantial edge profile without requiring lamination. Your fabricator can advise on the best thickness for your specific application and edge detail preferences.

Sealing is recommended for quartzite slabs for countertops. A quality penetrating sealer applied at installation, and reapplied periodically depending on use, keeps the stone resistant to staining. A simple test is to place a few drops of water on the surface; if the water absorbs rather than beads, it is time to reseal. For daily care, a pH-neutral cleaner or mild soap and water is sufficient. Avoid acidic cleaners such as vinegar or citrus-based products, which can degrade the sealer over time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Not harder, and in some ways easier. The matte, slightly textured surface of a leathered finish tends to hide fingerprints, water spots, and minor smudges more effectively than polished stone. Daily cleaning with a soft cloth and mild soap and water keeps it looking clean. The same sealing schedule applies regardless of finish type.

Both are natural stones with similar aesthetics, but quartzite is a metamorphic rock composed primarily of quartz, which makes it significantly harder and more resistant to scratching and etching than marble. Marble is a calcium carbonate stone that reacts to acidic substances; quartzite does not etch the same way, making it more forgiving in kitchen environments where spills are common.

Quartzite is generally well-suited to outdoor use because it resists UV exposure, heat, and weathering without fading or discoloring. That said, the specific suitability depends on the climate and application, so it is worth discussing your project with one of our design consultants before committing to an outdoor installation.

Most quartzite slabs benefit from resealing every one to two years, depending on how heavily the surface is used and the specific sealer applied. A straightforward water bead test tells you whether the sealer is still active. If water soaks into the stone rather than sitting on the surface, it is time to reseal.

Natural stone varies considerably between individual slabs, even within the same stone variety. Bianco Superiore can range from nearly white with fine veining to slabs with more pronounced movement and warm tones. The leathered finish also reads differently depending on lighting conditions. Viewing slabs in person at one of our four showrooms allows you to see the actual stone you will be installing, not a representative sample.
