Frequently Asked Questions
We get asked a lot of questions here at Nova Tile and Stone Nevada Inc., so check below to see if your question has already been asked! If it hasn't, please feel free to give us a call at (775) 783-4970.
Question: Is it okay for me to have travertine as my kitchen counter tops?
Travertine is a very poreous stone that is very sensitive to acids. Although it is not recommended to use travertine as your counters in your kitchen, you can definitely do it. First of all, you will need a fantastic sealer. You want to create a barrier between your soft stone and your pasta sauces and lemon juices and a good quality sealer can do that for you. However, prevention is key so you will still want to make sure you wipe off anything that spills. We are one of the largest dealers of AquaMix products and carry a full line of sealers and cleaners, so we've got you covered.
Question: What can I use to clean my granite counters?
We suggest that you use a stone and tile cleaner or soap and water. Do not use anything bleach or any products with amonia in it. These chemicals are too strong for your natural stone.
Question: What's the difference between natural stone and ceramic and porcelain tiles and how do I know which one is right for me?
Natural stone is much softer than porcelain and ceramic tiles. If you are looking for a more durable tile that can stand up to kids, dogs and a lot of wear you may prefer a porcelain or ceramic tile. However, that's not to say that natural stone doesn't do well with kids, dogs and wear. It's just that it's softer and is more susceptible to damage. Natural stone is very popular for commercial and residencial properties and you may like it better. You might want to come by our showroom so we can show you the difference between the two styles.
Question: I like the look of natural stone in showers, but I'm afraid of how hard it might be to clean. Any suggestions? What about soap scum?
Natural stone is no harder to clean than ceramic and porcelain tile. The only difference you may find is that you can use hard chemicals on ceramic and porcelain tiles and not on natural stone. So, in conclusion, the amount of effort and time you will spend cleaning should not be more at all, it should be the same or less. As far as soap scum goes, if you have it you aren't cleaning your shower enough. With natural stone all you need is soap and water or a good stone cleaner. Just take a sponge and wipe away the mess. Then you'r done!
